Storm-Damaged Trees: What to Do First

Summer storms on the Highveld can drop a mature tree in a few minutes. Before you grab a saw, take a breath and work through these steps.

1. Keep everyone back

Branches that look stable can shift. Keep children and pets indoors and stay well clear of anything hanging or cracked.

2. Check for power lines

If any part of the tree touches a cable, assume it is live. Call your electricity supplier and do not go near it. Work around live lines must be done by authorised specialists.

3. Take photos

Photograph the damage from a safe distance. Your insurer will want them, and they help us plan the removal and give you a quote quickly.

4. Call a tree team

Fallen trees store a lot of tension in the trunk and branches. A wrong cut can spring back hard. We cut in the right order, clear the driveway first and then deal with the rest of the tree.
